Sam Liao, PhD
Our founder and lead scientist has over 35 years of experience in all aspects of global clinical drug development and over 25 years of experience using population PK/PD modeling and clinical trial simulation in the drug development of small molecules and biologics.
Career Accomplishments
Sam has published around 45 peer-reviewed research papers and abstracts. He was also invited to give lectures at Temple University on NONMEM PK/PD Analysis and Application of Population PK/PD in Pharma Drug Development. Sam has received honors and awards for excellence in his contribution to the development of sustained-release dosage form and in pediatric drug development work.
Background
Sam obtained his PhD in Biopharmaceutics/Pharmacokinetics at Ohio State University and his BS in Chemistry from Tunghai University in Taiwan. He worked as a Senior Clinical Pharmacokineticist in Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics at Burroughs Wellcome for 12 years, where he was responsible for many anti-viral, antibiotic, and oncology drug development from pre-IND to NDA. Prior to founding Pharmax Research in 2000, Sam was a Research Fellow in Global Pharmacokinetics and Clinical Pharmacology at R.W. Johnson Pharmaceutical Research Institute for 9 years where he led the preparation of four NDA submissions as well as new drug labeling, including planning and conducting PK/PD studies and report preparation.
